One of today’s most formidable poker players, Phil Ivey is a home-grown champion of New Jersey. Still at his prime, this 34 year-old poker player has a potent background and a sound skill with regards to poker. If golf has its “Tiger Woods,” the world of poker has Phil Ivey, although he does not take these comments seriously. He has been a prominent name in poker especially with the birth of virtual poker rooms and casinos. The new breed of poker aficionados is all familiar with his strategies and techniques. As such, he represents the emerging generation of poker superstars.
Starting out in the poker tables of Atlantic City, Phil Ivey did not even thought of having to face the biggest names in poker. This card game has been his passion and interest but no one had ever predicted that he’ll end up in the elite circle of poker players. At a young age, he was able to enter the mainstream poker tournaments. In fact, he has bagged his first win from the World Series of Poker at age 23. It was at his surprise that he ended with three bracelets and an earning amounting at around 1 million. From then on, his career skyrocketed to its peak and his name was gradually topping the poker chat rooms. Although the chances of getting over the front of the line are slim, he managed to leave a convincing mark that will soon inspire other poker players.
It took him almost a decade to secure a seat in the World Series of Poker Main Event. Finally, in 2009, he found himself a chance at his first World Series championship. The arduous challenge of getting to the top took a heavy toll on him. He had won some tables and had outplayed some of the toughest players in the tournament. But when the time came for the final event, he committed a fatal mistake that caused him to plummet into the 7th place. Phil wasn’t able to push through with his campaign and ended the race with a heavy purse amounting to $1.4 million. Although the prize was encouraging, the nearness of the championship was really frustrating. He was too close to the WSOP series championship but because of a single error, he wasn’t able to sustain his bid.
As many people say, card games such as poker is an absolute science that math can decipher its turns and twists. It was a theory that many intellectuals hold steadfast unlit Phil Ivey proved it, otherwise. Back in 2006, Phil Ivey duelled with Andy Bloch, a famous mathematician slash poker genius, on the poker table in a game slated for three days. It was an intensely gruelling challenge that has drawn wide popularity. It was math versus wit, something that many have been waiting for. The game showcased the Phil Ivey’s highly equipped arsenal of poker strategies and Andy Bleak’s sound mathematical prowess. As the event was drawing close to its end, the decks seemed to lean towards Phil. No wonder, it ended favouring Phil Ivey. Thus, he bagged around $16.6 million worth of earnings from Beal.
Today, Phil Ivey has a staggering $13.8 million winnings plus a celebrated name in the poker world. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada and is still an active poker player.
