Immortel Ad Vitam is based on one of the fictional novels, The Nikopol Trilogy which was originally written in French by Enki Bilal. Set in New York City on 2095, the story of this mystifying movie is both captivating and intriguing. Aside from that, a clear disparity of this movie is the involvement of excellent special effects integrated with substandard computer generated imagery. Nonetheless, the story and the concept of the film is something beyond our wildest imagination.
In brief, the story starts with the strange appearance of the pyramid inhabited by the Gods above New York City. Here, a god with a falcon head named Horus is condemned by his fellow gods and goddesses, giving him a week to safeguard his immortality. He surveys the city looking for a woman to impregnate, and a man to transport his seeds. Unfortunately, because of the stern modification of human genes, using man as his vessel is quite an impossible feat. The reason behind this is that the bodies of humans are unable to put up with a god taking over them. Luckily, a man whose body has been untainted and frozen in prison, Nikopol is able to accommodate Horus in his system.
On the other hand, the woman chosen by Horus to carry his seeds is Jill, a paper white woman whose hair and tears are blue, in addition to that her tissues seem to be only a couple of months old. Moreover, the makeup of her body which seems to mystify familiarity made a doctor free her from slavery to become a subject of study. Jill is quite an unusual individual as her biological structure is nothing like doctors have ever seen before. Even so, this baffling persona made Nikopol fall in love with her.
If you think that the movie is as simple as two people falling in love in the time of cars flying on the horizon and alien invasion, think again. There are more complicated characters in the story like a mysterious masked man dressed in black who seems to be the protector of Jill. Aside from this, let us not forget the computer generated disfigured politicians and authorities side by side with mutated aliens. Indeed the complexity of the story compels viewers’ interest to stay tuned and find out the twists and progression of the story.
Although the storyline is captivating, viewers will find some computer generated individuals disconcerting. Nonetheless, for those who are interested in distinctive movies this is a great film not to be missed. What is more, the way that the New York metropolis in 2095 is depicted in this film is noteworthy. Also the way that mythology is incorporated with aliens in the future is something bewildering, but is exemplified well without looking too imprudent.
All in all, the mind boggling story makes up for some of incomprehensible computer generated imagery. But because the storyline is so much more than what is expected from the visuals, it is definitely a movie worth watching.
